Zach Ashcraft

Zach Ashcraft is a freshman currently pursing a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance at the Lamont School of Music. A native of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, he began playing the trumpet in the 7th grade. During high school, Zach was a member of the award winning L.D. Bell Marching Band. In 2004 the band was named the Texas State champion, and in 2006 the band placed 2nd in the state of Texas and in the nation! Zach was also a member of the Bell Symphonic Band and a soloist with the Jazz Band.
Throughout his high school years, Zach has studied privately with Jeff Norman, Mark Van Sickle, and Art Rocha, a graduate of the Lamont School of Music. It was Art who prepared him for music study in college and encouraged him to seek his degree at DU.
In 2007, Zach spent his summer touring and performing with the award winning Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corp. He will be returning to the Blue Stars organization for their summer 2008 U.S. tour. Zach is planning to participate in Drum Corp International until his age-out year in the summer of 2010 and aspires to teach drum corps after graduation.
At DU, Zach has performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Brass Quintet and the University Jazz Ensemble. Aside from playing the trumpet, Zach also enjoys composing and arranging music. Zach plans to pursue a master’s degree in music after his undergraduate years at DU, and hopes to one day become a high school band director, play in a professional orchestra, and compose music professionally.
