“Music makes a happy heart!” This philosophy, brought to life through a trumpet playing career, has been the passion of Brittany Branscom’s life. Brittany is currently a junior at the University of Denver, studying for her Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance at the Lamont School of Music. She has been an active trumpet player for nine years, graduating from Rocky Mountain High School in her hometown of Fort Collins, CO. During high school, Brittany gained a great deal of leadership experience as the principal player in many musical ensembles, as well as being selected for the All-State Band. Brittany met Joseph Martin and Alan Hood in 2003, and became aware of the diverse and prestigious brass program at DU. She was inspired by the opportunity to study with Al Hood and began her career as a music student. As a member of the trumpet studio of the Lamont School of Music, she participated in a team effort of planning specific details for the successful 2004 ITG conference at DU. The trumpet studio opened the conference with a performance of two world premiere pieces, composed specifically for the studio. Brittany recently completed her junior recital, required as part of a Bachelor of Music Degree. Brittany has participated in many ensembles at DU: Lamont Brass Ensemble, Lamont Wind Ensemble, Lamont Symphony Orchestra, Brass Quintet, University Jazz Ensemble, and Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra. Each ensemble performs multiple concerts per quarter and Brittany has played a lead part in a number of performances. Brittany began a private studio in 2005, teaching trumpet students of all ages. In Fall 2006, Brittany will be studying music in Milan, Italy in conjunction with the renowned “Academia Della Musica,” as part of DU’s study abroad program. She will return for the remaining 2 quarters of her senior year at Lamont and graduate in 2007. Her goals for the future include teaching and she also aspires to play professionally in a symphony orchestra. Brittany has been a resident assistant at the University of Denver for two years and participates as a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity.
